When a page on your website doesn't load, an error message shall be displayed to the visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages which will show up, but what's standard for all of them is that they are generic and almost certainly will have nothing that is similar to the layout of your website, which can be frustrating for any website visitor. This is the main reason why web hosting service providers have introduced a function known as Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, site visitors shall see your custom made content, which can be informative or humorous, based on your choice, and which shall match the style and design of your site, so the pages will not seem like they aren't part of your site at all. You may use this option for numerous errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).
Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting
The custom error pages feature is available with every single website hosting plan we offer and you'll be able to substitute the generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You'll need to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You can easily do this for every website hosted in the account separately, so that every group of personalized pages will have the same design as the site it is part of. If required, you could always return back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. One other way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have never done this before, you may simply copy the necessary program code from our Help article about the subject.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you host your sites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you could set tailor-made error pages for each of them effortlessly through our in-house created Hepsia hosting CP. With a couple of mouse clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you can modify the default setting from a system page to a tailor-made one for any of the 4 error types. All you need to do is supply a link to each file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you will be able to revert this customization whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you prefer, you can use an .htaccess file too. It should be created/uploaded within the domain or subdomain folder related to the website whose error pages you would like to modify and the content for this sort of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
